I am frighteningly behind on Naomi's birthday preparations. She turns 3 on Saturday! And there's a party! Oh, you mean I'm supposed to be planning that?!
I blame the weather. If it had been getting colder and less humid through September, like it's supposed to, I would be thinking "hey! it must be almost October! Time to plan Naomi's birthday!" But no. We are still cranking our air conditioner in the last week of September.
It's actually not that big of a deal. It's only a family party. I decided that this is probably the last year of my life that I will be able to get away with a low-key party with no kids invited, no Theme, no games, nothing special. Next year Naomi will be turing 4 and will probably be telling me what she wants at her party all summer, as she attends all of her friends' birthdays. Why raise the bar now, when she doesn't really care?
The larger source of stress is the In-Laws coming to visit. Josh's grandparents make the trip for Naomi's birthday every year. They always plan to make another stop. One year it was Gettysburg. This year, they are spending time in New York before driving down here for Naomi's birthday weekend. We have dinner plans Friday night and brunch plans on Sunday. We are assuming that sometime during the weekend they will see our house, so this week is the week where I do all the cleaning that I've been neglecting since, well, since the last time they came to visit.
But this year is special: I'm getting the carpets cleaned. And after this, I promise I will vaccuum them sometimes. Maybe even regularly. I swear.
I am waiting for Stanely Steemer right now, in fact. They are late-ish.

Good luck with the cleaning, the party and the visit. These things are always stressful, especially when they involves in-laws :)

I admire you keeping it low key. I wish I didn't start out with crazy big parties so young. Good luck with the party, and have a great time!

Happy birthday to Naomi! Nate's birthday is also this weekend -- we opted out of the whole birthday party thing and are instead taking the kids to Dutch Wonderland.
Hard to believe Naomi and Nate are turning 3!
